Wharf Crane

I built this crane to demonstrate how the worm gear could be used to hold in place a load. The crane jib can be set in any position by using the worm gear.

Technical Tips
Rather than using the usual Meccano method of string to raise and lower the jib I chose to use the sturdier looking chain. In one of the photos you can see that a bit of sticky tape secures the free end of the chain onto the sprocket wheel.
