Marine Crane
This model of a Marine Crane is based on the Hyundai 10000, one of the world's largest cranes with a lifting capacity of 10,000 tonnes. It is a type of crane known as a "floating shear-leg". The shear-legs forming the crane assembly are fixed to the floating vessel so it is not able to rotate independently. These cranes are often used in ship building or salvage operations.
The main challenge in building this model was winching the eight hooks from a single crank handle. This problem was solved by connecting the two sets of shafts on each side of the vessel using the very rarely used dog-clutch feature on Plastic Meccano gears (you can see this at 1:29 on the video below). Even so, raising and lowering eight separate hooks at the same rate is difficult so operation of the crane has to be done very carefully, which I'm sure is also the case with the real Hyundai 10000 !
