Mississippi Paddle Steamer
The Mississippi Paddle Steamer is an iconic steam boat design that developed in the nineteenth century to provide navigation along the Mississippi river and its tributaries. The boats were designed to operate in very shallow water whilst also being able to navigate against strong currents.
This model tries to capture the main features of the paddle steamers with their upper "Texas Deck" which sometimes provided luxurious cabins for the wealthier passengers, the twin smokestacks and of course the stern-mounted paddle. This model runs on wheels hidden below the deck which also drive the paddle via a chain and sprocket. |
